The 12-Week
Single Release
Strategy
A one-day, 6.5-hour industry-led masterclass in which students work through the complete strategy for the 12 weeks surrounding a contemporary music release.
Use one release to connect the parts of the music industry.
Students may encounter artist development, marketing, distribution, PR, budgeting, audience strategy and professional practice as separate areas of study. This masterclass connects them through one applied industry brief: taking a contemporary music release from strategy to market and evaluation.
Music Business & Artist Management
Students approach the release from the perspective of an artist's management team, defining objectives, allocating resources, coordinating activity and making the strategic and commercial decisions involved in taking an artist and release to market.
Contemporary & Commercial Music
The same framework gives emerging artists a practical structure for releasing, promoting and developing an audience for their own music, connecting creative identity with professional and commercial practice.
From artist identity to post-release analysis.
During the day, students develop an integrated campaign covering the connected stages of a professional contemporary music release.
Identity, positioning, purpose, audience and objectives.
12-week planning, milestones, resources, responsibilities and risk.
Campaign narrative, assets, EPK, media research and communication.
Release preparation, metadata and professional release readiness.
Digital marketing, playlists, radio, media, live engagement and launch.
KPIs, campaign review, evaluation and priorities for the next release.
Designed to complement existing undergraduate provision.
The masterclass is mapped against learning areas commonly found within Music Business, Artist Management and Popular, Contemporary & Commercial Music degrees. It is designed to connect existing curriculum areas through applied professional practice rather than duplicate them.

Standalone masterclass or embedded practical project.
The format can work as a standalone industry masterclass or sit within an existing module as an intensive practical project. It can be adapted to the level and focus of a particular cohort while retaining the central outcome of a completed release campaign strategy.
Curriculum integration
The session can be mapped more specifically against programme and module learning outcomes, making it suitable for enrichment, professional practice or embedded curriculum activity.
Interdisciplinary delivery
Music Business and Contemporary Music students can work around the same release project from complementary managerial, commercial, creative and professional perspectives.
